Our why
Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) continues to strengthen its Women's & Children's Program, recently welcoming five highly skilled gynecologic surgeons from across Ontario. These specialists bring advanced expertise in minimally invasive surgery, allowing more women to receive complex procedures close to home with shorter hospital stays, faster recoveries, and improved outcomes.
Each year, WRHN welcomes approximately 4,800 babies, making it one of the busiest maternal care programs in the region. To ensure mothers and babies continue to receive the highest standard of care, Couture for Cancer will support two priority equipment needs that will have an immediate and lasting impact.
Jada System
The Jada System is an innovative device designed to rapidly treat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), one of the leading causes of maternal complications following childbirth. This time-sensitive emergency can result in blood transfusions, intensive care admission, emergency surgery, prolonged hospitalization, and significant physical and emotional impacts for mothers and their families.
As the number of births at WRHN continues to grow, access to the Jada System will help ensure women receive safe, timely, and life-saving care when every minute matters.
NEED: 9 devices
TOTAL COST: $16,750
Wolf Bipolar Forceps
The Wolf Bipolar Forceps support advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. In the past, many women requiring major gynecologic procedures after childbirth would undergo open abdominal surgery, often resulting in longer hospital stays and weeks of recovery.
With these specialized surgical instruments, combined with the expertise of WRHN's new surgeons, many of these procedures can now be performed laparoscopically through small incisions. This means less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and a quicker return home to families.
NEED: 7 devices
TOTAL COST: $34,000
Your investment will help ensure women across our region have access to safer, more advanced surgical care close to home. It will also enable WRHN to fully leverage the expertise of its growing surgical team while continuing to build a leading women's health program for generations to come.
