WRHN Foundation’s Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic returns this summer: registration now open

News Release
Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont. | March 4, 2026
Team registration is now open for Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) Foundation’s annual Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic this July.
The tournament supporting kids care at WRHN will be held Sat. July 11 at The Boardwalk, Waterloo.
Co-chaired by Detroit Red Wings No. 8 Ben Chiarot and his wife Jacqueline, the Road Hockey Classic brings together youth teams (ages 5-18) and adult teams (19+) in tournament-style play, with pro players stepping in to help coach and inspire participants throughout the day. Teams can choose which division they want to play in: competitive or fun.
The event also features a fundraising challenge, with prizes awarded to the top fundraising youth and adult teams.
Now in its fifth season, the Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic has netted more than $1 million since it first began. Funds raised through registration fees, team fundraisers, and on-site sales of merchandise, beer and silent auction items help secure equipment and program needs for WRHN’s pediatric patients.
“Hitting the $1 million milestone last year was a huge accomplishment and we were so proud to see the continued support from this community,” says Jacqueline Chiarot. “We’re so thrilled to mark five years of this event. Let’s make this one bigger and more impactful than ever for our local kids and their families.”
The Road Hockey Classic is part of a larger Scotland’s Yard campaign to bring more comprehensive pediatric care to WRHN.
The Chiarots partnered with the hospital foundation to help launch the tournament after their friends’ daughter, Scotland (Scottie), was diagnosed with cancer at three months old. Now a healthy six-year-old, Scottie had to travel outside the region for treatment and continues to receive some follow-up care in Hamilton.
Scotland’s Yard aims to bring care close to home for local patients.
“The Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic has been a summer staple in our community that continues to benefit kids across Waterloo Region and beyond,” says Ashley Howat, VP Strategic Initiatives at WRHN Foundation. “Last year we had a record turnout and we want to see that momentum continue at this year’s event to help even more kids and their families access the care they need, close to home.”
