A linear accelerator, or LINAC, directs precision radiation to tumours while protecting healthy tissue. To keep up with growing demand, the Cancer Centre is looking to add to its complement of care, improving access to treatment closer to home for more patients.

Mammography and breast diagnostic services at WRHN @ Chicopee, part of the region’s coordinated approach to breast cancer screening and care.
UW WELL-FIT Cancer Rehab
A 12-week exercise program for people going through or recently finished cancer treatment, delivered by trained fitness staff at the University of Waterloo with a referral from your cancer care team.
Thoracic Diagnostic Assessment Program
Fast-tracked testing and screening for chest cancers, so patients with concerning scans get answers sooner.

Jeff's story
Jeff Kalan's journey with prostate cancer spanned 14 years and two care teams, in London and at WRHN Cancer Centre. When his cancer began to spread, his care team recommended radiation. Jeff was hesitant, until his radiation oncologist, Dr. Pierre Fortin, laid out what was at stake.
He talked to me about the effectiveness of radiation and how it's improved and changed over the last decade. That's what I needed to hear to convince myself to do this.
Jeff completed his 33rd and final round of radiation, then marked the milestone by ringing WRHN Cancer Centre's ceremonial gong, a tradition supported by the Foundation since 2015 to celebrate patients' treatment milestones.

Common Questions About Cancer Care at WRHN
What does my gift actually fund?
Your donation helps fund equipment and expanded capacity for WRHN's cancer program, including the push to add a new LINAC. Gifts to the Cancer Care & Compassion Fund also help patients in need with costs that clinical budgets don't cover, like accommodations, everyday essentials, and support with procedures needed before chemotherapy can begin.
How can I support cancer care at WRHN?
You can give today or become a monthly donor to support the new LINAC, the Cancer Care & Compassion Fund, or cancer care more broadly across the WRHN Cancer Centre and the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program.​
Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?
Yes. WRHN Foundation is a registered Canadian charity (Charitable Registration No. 889180394 RR 0001), and tax receipts are issued for eligible donations. Monthly donors receive an annual tax receipt each February covering all gifts from the previous calendar year.​
If I need cancer care myself, who should I contact?
Most cancer care begins with a referral from your family doctor, nurse practitioner, or walk-in clinic. The Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program can also connect you with a location and care team close to home.​
