With your support, WRHN’s Regional Cancer Centre is investing in the advanced technology and expertise needed at every stage — from mammography tools that detect and diagnose breast cancer early, to state-of-the-art radiation technology that delivers precise, life-saving treatment.

- Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.
- More than 80% of breast cancers are found in women over the age of 50.
- When breast cancer is found early, treatment usually works better, and people have a higher chance of living longer. But if it’s found late, it’s harder to treat. That’s why regular check-ups and screening tests are so important.

For someone facing the possibility of breast cancer, like Tetiana, getting clear answers matters. Modern mammography technology supports breast cancer screening and diagnosis, helping care teams identify and investigate changes in breast tissue.

Hope, healing, and giving back: How compassionate cancer care at WRHN changed a family’s life
After moving to Kitchener from Ukraine with her husband and five children, Tetiana Kosenko faced a life-altering breast cancer diagnosis.
Through surgeries, chemotherapy, and the compassionate support of her care team, she found hope during her hardest moments. Surrounded by her family, Tetiana proudly rang the chemo bell, celebrating a journey defined by resilience, human connection, and the lifesaving care available right here in our community.

Free mammograms start at age 40 (no doctor's referral required!)
Taking care of your health is one of the most powerful steps you can take. Through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), supported across WRHN facilities, individuals aged 40 to 74 can book a free screening mammogram every 2 years without needing a doctor’s order or referral.

Linear accelerators (LINACs) aim radiation directly at a tumour while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Thanks to donors like you, two LINACs have already been replaced, a third is underway and a sixth machine will soon expand care capacity for patients when they need it most.
Each new LINAC is so much more than equipment. Your gift is transforming the treatment experience by funding specialized room upgrades and precise tools, like real-time motion tracking, ensuring every patient receives maximum treatment accuracy.
